Arts & Culture

Want to explore some iconic architectural examples? The harbour of Paphos can please your eyes assuredly. Several long-standing mansions, theatres, castles, tombs and, more importantly, intriguing Mosaic floors. Preserved from the Hellenistic to the Byzantine period, these floors can be seen in the mansions of Dionysus, Theseus, Aion and Orpheus.

Moreover, Cyprus is home to many museums, including the Archaeological Museum in Limassol, Cyprus Museum, Pierides and Thalassa, all known to depict the Greek and Cyprus civilization since the Neolithic era. The artefacts and personal belongings of the bygone era are worth a watch if history interests you. Not to forget, the great monastery of Kykkos, established in the 11th century in honour of the Virgin Mary is a must-visit.

Etiquette and manners in Cyprus

When meeting someone in Cyprus, shake hands and smile during the greeting. Do not forget to make eye contact. Many Turkish Cypriots lower their eyes during the greeting as a sign of respect. Very religious Muslims do not shake hands with women. At small gatherings, your host will introduce you to other guests.

Watch your table manners!

The fork is held in the left hand and the knife is to be held in the right hand while eating. Remain standing until invited to sit down. The oldest person and the guest of honour is generally served first. Pass the dishes with your right hand only.
