Architecture enthusiasts will also delight in the iconic Lotus Temple. Listen to qawwalis (devotional music) at the dargah (tomb) of the Sufi saint Nizam‑ud‑din Auliya, or wander through the 17th‑century Chandni Chowk marketplace – still one of the city’s most popular retail centres today, famous for its traditional jewellery and saris. DAY 02: IN DELHI

After breakfast, proceed to explore both Old and New Delhi.

  • The tour begins with a visit to Raj Ghat, a simple yet powerful memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Drive past the Red Fort and continue to Jama Masjid, one of Asia’s largest mosques. The magnificent Red Fort, overlooking the River Yamuna, was built between 1638 and 1648 when the Mughal Empire was at its peak. The visit to the Jama Masjid is from the outside.
  • Next, discover the Spice Market of Old Delhi: Khari Baoli is a street known for its wholesale grocery trade and is Asia’s largest wholesale spice market, selling a vast variety of spices, nuts, herbs, and food products such as rice and tea. Operating since the 17th century, the market is situated near the historic Red Fort, on Khari Baoli Road, adjacent to Fatehpuri Masjid at the western end of Chandni Chowk. Over the years, it has remained a key attraction, especially for those exploring Old Delhi’s heritage circuit.
  • Enjoy a rickshaw ride around Chandni Chowk. Chandni Chowk, or “Silver Square,” is the most famous and historic street of Delhi, developed over 300 years ago when the walled city of Shahjahanabad was established in the 17th century. Do not let the word “old” mislead you, the vibrant streets of Chandni Chowk are full of energy, offering street food, bustling bazaars, and shops where you can find unique artefacts and traditional jewellery.
  • Later, proceed to explore New Delhi:
    • Qutub Minar – the tallest stone tower in India. Construction began in 1199 AD by Qutub‑ud‑Din Aibak and was completed by his successor and son‑in‑law, Iltutmish. The tower stands at 72.5 metres high with 379 steps from base to top, tapering from 14.3 metres in diameter at the base to just 2.7 metres at the top.
    • Humayun’s Tomb – built in 1565 AD, nine years after Humayun’s death, by his senior widow Bega Begum. Inside the walled enclosure, the most notable features are the chaharbagh (garden squares) with pathways and water channels, and the centrally located, well‑proportioned mausoleum topped by a striking double dome.

The tour also includes a drive past the imposing India Gate, the Parliament Building and Rashtrapati Bhawan, the President’s residence.

Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid‑17th century as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world.
